Medland Metropolis provided full design services and base building design review services for the Westpac, 150 Collins Street fitout in Melbourne. The project was designed to PCA A-Grade level and has PCA Premium Grade Services. The scope of works included a client floor lobby, collaborative spaces, café, open plan office and technology integrated meeting spaces across eight levels.

There was a strong focus on designing a sophisticated, contemporary space. The collaborative spaces include integrated technology and work settings for a vibrant, interactive design to encourage communal interaction. The open plan office spaces are designed to maximise space, flexibility and functionality. The services design enables a seamless environment that encourages movement and collaboration across departments, including an internal stair open across all floors.

Services features of the building include an under floor air conditioning system utilising a raised floor, allowing occupants to control air flow, a security system which is fully integrated and includes destination control to the lifts, and 100% standby generator power.

Working with our client’s requirement to protect their data sensitive communications room, we designed an extinguishant inert gas suppression system (carbon neutral and no carbon tax) with a specialised smoke aspirating detection system to protect servers and data racks if a fire was present. This system can detect the smallest fires and will only realise the gas extinguishant if a fire is verified by the detection system. If the gas is released it will not damage any equipment and the communications room can be up and running on the same day as a fire occurs, resulting in minimum downtime for operations. The entire eight levels were sprinkler protected and an occupancy warning system and detection system was installed in accordance with code. Working in collaboration with the architect these service and their control panels we installed to be as minimalist as possible.

The end result was a stylish, innovative, animated, highly functional fitout in line with Westpac’s future vision for agile activity based working.
