Medland Metropolis worked with Latitude Architects on the exciting multi-sports complex project which has been constructed at Mazenod College. Mazenod College is known for their sporting excellence, and as such chose to build a world class arena with amenities specifically designed for volleyball, chess, futsal, indoor cricket, basketball and table tennis. The centrepiece is a volleyball “show court” which has been designed and built to a standard that allows the school to host international tournaments. As the client had very specific uses for their new facility, it allowed us and Latitude Architects to explore our creative side, particularly with regards to the lighting and environmental options. The client had us explore different environmental options for the complex, such as natural ventilation and other energy saving opportunities. Six alternative designs to the initial design were investigated to quantify improvements in thermal comfort and to minimise energy use. Working collaboratively with the architect, we were able to come up with a more effective solution than that originally envisaged.
