A healthy body leads to a healthy mind

We understand that our people are our biggest asset. Through Empower, our tailored programme of training and development for all employees, we promote continuous improvement in all of our people, not only in the way we do business, but also to encourage and support our staff to develop their potential as holistic professionals. The Empower programme now has four  streams; Educate, Cultivate, Innovate and the new Appreciate.

Our philosophy is that an individual’s capacity to participate productively is a key ingredient in successful engineering. Through structured adventures we challenge our teams in all types of environments to break down boundaries and get people working together.

With new leadership in the Melbourne office it was time for the team to really get to know one another, and with winter colds and flu looming what better time to get active as well?

As part of the Empower Programme the Melbourne team spent an afternoon out of the office defying gravity, challenging themselves and each other at Latitude Melbourne, and with over 100 interconnected trampolines, basketball lanes, a team obstacle course, climbing zone and dodge ball arena there was something for everyone.

In addition to bonding as a team, everyone came away from the session feeling invigorated and ready for fresh challenges in the new financial year.

Intellectual rigour is crucial to engineering success, and a healthy body leads to a healthy mind!

Trampolining and climbing are proven ways to get happy, and unlike other exercise activities, when engineers jump on a tramp they have so much fun that they eagerly sustain a sufficient activity level that leads to genuine fitness with low impact to the body. In addition to improving team work and communication the potential health benefits of these activities include:

  • Increased cardiovascular health,
  • Increased leg and core strength,
  • Improved coordination and balance,
  • Improved muscular endurance,
  • Strengthening of the muscles responsible for healthy posture,
  • Increased metabolism,
  • Stress reduction,
  • Strengthens all cells in the body,
  • Improved digestion,
  • Improved cellular health (removes toxins),
  • Improved optical tracking and peripheral vision.
